Dermal Fillers with Hyaluronic Acid

Dermal Fillers with Hyaluronic Acid

Dermal fillers are amazing at “filling in wrinkles” thus making skin appear smoother and more plump. They can help smooth out lines around the nose and mouth, enhance and restore volume to sunken cheeks, diminish vertical lip lines, plump and enhance lips, smooth out a chin crease, and improve symmetry among facial features.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours. We often use dermal fillers with hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It helps keep skin plump and hydrated. Hyaluronic acid fillers are typically soft and gel-like. The results are temporary, lasting 6 to 12 months or longer before the body gradually and naturally absorbs the particles.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

Just before the actual treatment, the area will be cleaned, and you may be given a topical anesthetic to numb the area prior to injection. Many filler products also contain lidocaine, a mild anesthetic, which is intended to help minimize discomfort during and after your treatment. Our provider will then inject a precise amount of filler strategically beneath your skin.

Depending on the product and the areas treated, you should be able to notice results immediately after receiving filler injections. You will be able to go back to your normal activities right after treatment, but our physician may ask you to take the day off from exercise or other strenuous activity.

Are There Any Side Effects of Dermal Fillers?

Some patients experience mild bruising and swelling, but these are temporary and should subside over the days following treatment. All other less frequent side effects will be explained in detail during your consultation and signing the Informed Consent form.

Who Shouldn’t Receive Dermal Fillers?

If you are currently pregnant and/or have a known allergy to any ingredient in the dermal filler injection you should not have the procedure performed. Be sure to discuss all medications, vitamins, and supplements you are taking with our physician, during your pre-treatment consultation, to evaluate if you are a good candidate for the procedure. If you have any other concerns, during or after treatment, please contact our staff immediately.
